Some things can't be said, or shouldn't be said. We write them down, we burn the paper, we never send the text message, we let the words hang unsaid. Burnt letters takes those unspoken words and lets them live through song with lush vocal harmonies, thoughtful lyrics and soaring melodies.

Featuring songsmith Kinch Kinski, writer and singer Lou Pine, cellist Bianca Eden, and musical all-rounder Ray Bassett, Burnt letters spill their raucous heartbreak all over Bar Oussou on Wednesday January 18.

Free entry.

Recalibrate with us after the silly season at Open Studio on the first Saturday afternoon of the year. Not a santa hat in sight.

So we had this band meeting and we were talking about the places we'd really like to play again, and Littlefoot came out right at the top of the list. So we wrote to Stuart and we asked him, What are the chances? And Stuart wrote back and asked us, How's July 17? And we wrote back and we said, Stuart, you're on.

7 pm at Lou's favourite bar. Free.

Newport Folk Festival

We're returning to the warm arms of the Newport Folk Festival for the third year in a row because, well quite frankly, it's the most welcoming party in town.

Escape election day madness by picking yourself up a full day and night pass for less than the cost of that espresso martini that you knew even at the time was a bad idea. For just a few bucks more you can see a full weekend of folk artists doing what they do best - that's what we'll be doing. If we haven't seen your beautiful faces there before, third time's a charm.

There are a number of things that make a pub good. Clean beer lines, friendly staff, clean beer glasses.

But what makes a pub great? Hand picked bands for Sunday sessions, burgers you can't climb over, and this promise: "Give the pub a call if it's close to kitchen closing time and we'll keep it open a wee bit longer for you." Dead set.

Now, if you want a great pub, come join us at The Tramway Hotel. We're playing from four til six on Sunday April 24th and it's free. (Though we can't guarantee your guts won't have to pay some price for eating Curveball's Canadian Real Poutine.)

Some Velvet Morning with The Acfields

We're super pleased to be playing with our old friends The Acfields. We're also super pleased that Hannah managed to walk across Spain and make it home in one piece. We heard a rumour that she had to catch and eat small Spaniards to survive. People have started calling her Bear Acfield.

Okay, so maybe they haven't started calling her that. But that won't stop us celebrating her success. And maybe singing along with one of The Acfields' songs. And maybe they'll sing along with one of ours...

Well this'll be fun. Burnt letters are playing like they used to in the olden days, back before they were wooed by cellos and mandolins and the good looks of all those other letters. This time it's just two voices and a guitar. And The Burley Griffin. And James Fahy, who's launching an EP (launching an EP for heavens' sake!) And crepes. Apparently the crepes are the bomb.

Come down to Open Studio and join in the fun. It's free, or a fiver if you've got it. Did we mention James Fahy is launching an EP? (An EP!)

Major Tom's with Brook Russell and the Mean Reds

We're getting on the VLine with Brooke Russell and The Mean Reds to play a sweet little gig at Major Tom's in Kyneton.

With songs about boozy nights, bad decisions, broken hearts and the best intentions, Brooke Russell and The Mean Reds blend country, blues, folk and swing to appease their love of all things vintage. We love her and we love her mean reds.

And we couldn't think of a choicer place to hole up with them for the night than at Major Tom's—self-confessed bar, diner, cantina, beer garden, music venue, burger joint, watering hole, record spinning friendly place.

At $12 it's a steal. Doors open at 8.30 pm.

Newport Folk Festival 2015

We are tickled pink to be returning to Newport this winter for the Newport Folk Festival 2015

Last year was a real treat: we played in front of a gorgeous crowd (a disproportionate number of whom were related to Lou), we discovered some cracking local talent, and we rediscovered just how well a Bowls Club can do a crisp lager.

Come and help us draw the festival to a close on Sunday afternoon. We guarantee it'll be warmer and funner than anything else you've got planned.

Come along and see if it works. And if it doesn't, you'll get a great feed, a giant beer menu and some free music as a consolation prize.

Good news, people! No need to travel to the USA to attend the Newport Folk Festival, we have our very own. And it involves a bowls club so clearly it's better!

We're very excited to be playing at the Newport Fiddle and Folk Club's Newport Folk Festival Australia on Sunday 6 July. It's at the Newport Bowls Club, so come have a beer and maybe even a roll with us.

Since finding out we were playing people have been volunteering their glowing opinions of the festival. It sounds like a hidden gem situation. And you know you love a hidden gem.
